It’s Summer! Swap Soups for Salads!
As we shift into the summer season, our bodies naturally adapt to the warmer weather. In winter, our metabolism ramps up to maintain body temperature, which increases our need for energy. That’s why we tend to crave heavier, warming foods like root vegetables, meat, and healthy fats.
In contrast, summer brings slower metabolism and reduced caloric needs. Our appetite often decreases too, as digestion generates heat—and our bodies are trying to stay cool! This is why we naturally lean toward lighter, refreshing foods like leafy greens, fish, salads, and fruits during the warmer months.
Hot weather also increases sweating, which can lead to dehydration and a loss of electrolytes. Leafy greens, rich in essential minerals, are a great way to replenish what’s lost—making them a smart seasonal choice.
Eating with the seasons means choosing local fruits and vegetables that are naturally growing in your region right now. It supports your body’s needs, lowers your environmental impact by reducing transportation and storage, and encourages sustainable agriculture and biodiversity.
Summer is the perfect time to enjoy salads and smoothies packed with fresh, local ingredients.
What’s in season right now? Think asparagus, rhubarb, spring onions, radishes, spinach, kale, lettuce, peas, broccoli, beets, cucumbers, apples, cherries, and berries.
Eat fresh. Eat local. And let your body—and the earth—thank you for it!

Embrace the Shift from Summer to Fall!
Summer is an active season that often means longer days, outdoor adventures, social gatherings, and late nights. We move more, eat more, drink more—and often sleep a little less. As Fall arrives, our bodies naturally slow down, guided by shorter days and cooler air. This season encourages us to restore balance, get more rest, and settle into nourishing routines.
Fall is the perfect time to gently cleanse the body and strengthen the immune system in preparation for the colder months ahead.
This month, make cruciferous vegetables your go-to nutrient powerhouse! Broccoli, cauliflower, kale, and Brussels sprouts are rich in compounds that fight oxidative stress, reduce inflammation, support detoxification, and give your immune system a healthy boost.
Here is one of my favorite cruciferous recipes:
Quinoa Cruciferous Salad:
2 cups cooked quinoa
1 cup broccoli in mini florets
1 cup Brussels sprouts, grated or sliced
3 green onions chopped
2 cups kale, thinly sliced
¾ cup almond, chopped
¼ cup fresh oregano leaves
Dressing:
½ cup First-pressed virgin olive oil
½ lemon juiced
2tsp mustard
1tbsp fresh oregano leaves
2tsp apple cider vinegar
1tsp honey
1 small garlic clove
Salt and pepper to taste
Garnish (optional):
parmesan grated
Instructions:
1. Chop all vegetables.
2. Sauté the broccoli florets and Brussels sprouts in a pan at medium heat with a drizzle of olive oil and salt, for 2–3 minutes, until bright green and tender-crisp. Set aside.
3. Combine salad: In a large bowl, mix quinoa, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, green onion, kale, oregano, and chopped almonds.
4. Make the dressing: Place all ingredients in a glass jar and mix with a hand mixer until smooth.
5. Toss & serve: Pour dressing over the salad, toss gently, and adjust seasoning to taste. Sprinkle with grated Parmesan for added flavor!

Detoxifying Smoothie Bowl
This recipe is loaded with detoxifying agents including lemon, cilantro, parsley, and ginger. It contains all the amino acids (protein powder) and fatty acids (chia seeds) required for detoxification!
And the best part; it’s delicious, so that’s a plus!
Lemon - is alkaline to the body and helps reduce acidity and balances pH. Lemon is a diuretic that increases urine production, which is very cleansing and beneficial for kidney function. Lemon also improves iron absorption, the mineral that carries oxygen in the body required for energy production.
Cilantro - has powerful detoxifying agents and its action is to mobilize heavy metals and toxins in the body making them more available for excretion. Cilantro eases digestion by stimulating the release of bile and improving elimination of toxins through the bile. Plus, it has high levels of selenium, a crucial element in detoxification and important for liver function.
Parsley - has cleansing properties that help flushing toxins out and improve detoxification. Parsley contains myristicin, a compound that fights cancer cells and activates Glutathione, the master antioxidant essential for detoxification. It also contains flavonoid, chlorophyll and high levels of vitamin C that boosts the immune system.
Ginger - has anti-bacterial, antimicrobial, antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties. Ginger reduces inflammation in the body, fight infections, and boosts immunity. Ginger is a natural antacid with phenolic compounds that ease irritation in the stomach and reduce acidity and heartburns. It also contains antioxidants that reduce oxidative stress in the body and help detoxification.
